In a secluded part of Lake Villa, Il's parks system lays the beautiful home known as the Lehman Mansion. This Italianate mansion is a massive presence on the wooded grounds where the annual Civil War event was suppose to take place. "Suppose" to being the key word. It is the first time in our groups history that we set up for an event that never happened. At the onset of the weekend, we should have known that we needed a boat and oars to get around, as the rain started on Friday and continued to pelt on us all day on Saturday, the event never opened to the public. The officers call was held and voted to stay put in hopes of better weather on Sunday, which was not to be. Hurricane Ike pushed up from Texas and drenched the area all weekend. At 3:30 on Saturday the event was officially called and we were all encouraged to pack up and head for dryer ground. After a provided meal that was great, we began the task of taking down loads of wet, muddied canvas! But it was all worth it and we can't wait to attend a much drier event next year!
